EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an iconic army jacket worn by Andre M. Jones during the Iraq War in 2003. The light-colored camouflage United States Army jacket is a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice. Its four pockets on the front, two on each side of the torso, served as practical storage for essential items in combat. Above the upper pocket on the PR (right) side, we can see Jones' name boldly displayed [JONES], signifying his individuality and identity within a larger unit. On the same shoulder, two patches are proudly affixed: one depicting a unit patch representing the 3rd Personnel Command ACI with three interlocking rings around an upward-pointing sword; and another featuring the American flag outlined in yellow, its stars facing forward. This artifact not only represents Andre M. Jones' personal journey but also stands as a testament to African Americans' significant contributions to America's armed forces throughout history. As part of the 547th Transportation Company during this critical period in our nation's military history, Jones played a vital role in supporting operations during the invasion of Iraq. Preserved at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), this jacket serves as both an object of historical significance and cultural heritage art piece. It embodies bravery, resilience, and patriotism while reminding us of those who have selflessly served their country amidst challenging circumstances like war. The unknown creator behind this photograph print has captured not just an article of clothing but also a profound story that deserves recognition within our national narrative.
