EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an engraved ticket for the historic Coronation ceremony of George III in Westminster Abbey in 1761. The artist behind this exquisite piece is none other than George Bickham, who beautifully captured the grandeur and significance of this royal event. George III ascended to the throne following his grandfather's sudden passing in 1760, and as he embarked on his reign, finding a suitable wife became paramount. On September 8th, 1761, King George married Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz at St James's Palace. Remarkably, their first encounter occurred on their wedding day itself. Just two weeks later, both were crowned at the magnificent Westminster Abbey. The engraving by George Bickham the Younger expertly depicts this momentous occasion with intricate detail and precision. It transports us back to a time when monarchs held immense power and religious ceremonies played a central role in public life. Published in The Connoisseur magazine in 1906, this print serves as a testament to British history and royalty during the early years of the 20th century. The elegant lettering adds an air of sophistication to the overall composition while conveying essential information about the event. As we gaze upon this remarkable image today, we are reminded of King George III's reign alongside Queen Charlotte – a significant chapter that shaped Great Britain's destiny under their rule.
