Las iguanas terrestres son una de las especies endemicas de Galapagos, ubicada 1.000 km frente a las costas de Ecuador. El archipielago le sirvio de laboratorio natural al cientifico ingles Charles Darwin para que concibiera su teoria sobre la evolucion de las especies.
