EDITORS COMMENTS
The Marquise d'Hautpoul de Seyre and Sir Harry Stonor aboard HMY Victoria and Albert, 1933. This print captures a moment of elegance and camaraderie between two esteemed courtiers of King George V and Queen Mary. The Marquise, born Julia Caroline Stonor, was not only the sister of Sir Harry Julian Stonor but also a close companion to the queen herself. Her brother, Sir Harry, held prestigious positions within the royal household as Groom in Waiting, Deputy Master of the Royal Household, and Secretary and Registrar of the Order of Merit. In this snapshot from their voyage on HMY Victoria and Albert - a steamship exclusively used by the royal family for their trips to Osborne House - we witness an intimate bond between siblings who shared both personal connections with royalty and a deep sense of duty. Dressed impeccably in striped blazers that exude timeless style, they stand side by side against the nautical backdrop. This photograph serves as a reminder not only of their privileged position within British society but also highlights their dedication to serving the monarchy with utmost loyalty. As we gaze upon this monochrome portrait frozen in time, we are transported back to an era where gracefulness reigned supreme amidst changing times.
