EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the de Havilland DH.87 Hornet Moth, registration number F-BCJO (msn 8035), at Kidlington Airfield circa April 1959. The DH.87 Hornet Moth, a classic biplane design produced by the de Havilland Aircraft Company, was first registered as G-ADKL in the United Kingdom before being impressed into military service during World War II as W5750. After the war, it reverted to its original civilian registration. In 1952, the aircraft was exported to France and registered as F-BCJO. Following its return to the UK, it once again bore the registration number G-ADKL. The DH.87 Hornet Moth, with its distinctive rounded fuselage and open cockpit, was a popular aircraft among private pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Its versatile design allowed it to be used for both touring and racing. In this photograph, the Hornet Moth appears poised for takeoff, its wings glistening in the sunlight and its engine roaring to life. The scene transports us back to a bygone era of aviation, when the thrill of flight was a more personal and intimate experience. The de Havilland DH.87 Hornet Moth remains an iconic aircraft in aviation history, a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the de Havilland Aircraft Company. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, a moment frozen in time that continues to inspire and captivate aviation enthusiasts to this day.
