EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent Sardinia Sassari Sassari S. Nicola Cathedral, a true testament to Italy's rich visual history and medieval architecture. Built in the 13th century, this cathedral stands as a remarkable example of Gothic-Aragonesque style on a Latin cross plan. The lower part of the campanile still remains, serving as a reminder of its ancient origins. Over time, post-medieval architectural elements were added between the 15th and 18th centuries, culminating in an extensive rebuilding from 1480 to 1505 when the episcopal seat was transferred from Porto Torres to Sassari in 1441. Stepping inside reveals a breathtaking interior with four bays adorned with side chapels and crowned by a majestic cupola over the crossing. In the latter half of the 16th century, elongated transepts were introduced along with two ambulatories that further enhanced its grandeur. Adding to its allure is the present facade which was intricately designed in a florid Spanish Colonial Baroque style and completed in 1723. This masterpiece boasts detailed architectural sculptures that captivate every visitor who sets eyes upon it. As you gaze at this photo print, immerse yourself in Italy's enchanting past and marvel at how this cathedral has stood tall through centuries of change while preserving its awe-inspiring beauty for generations to come.
