EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a young Hussein Abdel-Rassoul, circa 1925, in all his glory. At just twelve years old, Hussein worked as a houseboy in the residence of renowned archaeologist Howard Carter. Legend has it that on November 4th, 1922, while performing his duties and making tea for Carter, Hussein stumbled upon the top of a hidden staircase leading to King Tut's tomb. This remarkable discovery changed the course of history forever. In this photograph, Hussein exudes an air of innocence and curiosity as he stands proudly in traditional Egyptian attire. His vibrant turban and intricately designed clothing reflect the rich cultural heritage of Egypt. The necklace adorning his neck adds a touch of regality to his youthful appearance. Hussein's role in uncovering one of the greatest archaeological treasures ever found cannot be overstated. He rushed to fetch Carter after discovering the entrance to King Tut's tomb beneath Rameses VI's burial site - an event that would captivate people around the world for generations to come. As we gaze at this image captured by Harry Burton, we are reminded not only of Hussein's pivotal role but also of Egypt's ancient past and its enduring legacy. It serves as a testament to how ordinary individuals can play extraordinary roles in shaping our understanding of history and preserving our collective heritage.
