Dorothy Spicer, aviator
Dorothy Norman Spicer, married name Pearce (1908- 1946), aviator and pioneering aeronautical engineeer. Together with her business partner Pauline Gower set up a successful aeronautical company. She was the first woman to ever hold an aeronautical B engineering certificate and went on to earn both a C and D certificates - a remarkable achievement. Also toured with the British Empire air display. She was killed in a passenger plane crash along with her husband, Flight Lieutenant Richard Pearce, near Rio de Janeiro in 1946. Date: 1934
