King Olav V of Norway (1903 - 1991), born Prince Alexander Edward Christian Frederik to Prince Carl of Denmark and Princess Maud of Great Britain at Sandringham in Norfolk. He became known as Prince Olav when his father became King Haakon VII of Norway in 1905. A well-loved monarch, he reigned from 1957 to 1991. He was also a proficient athlete, excelling at ski-jumping and winning an Olympic gold in sailing at the 1928 Olympics. He was the last surviving grandchild of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra when he died in 1991

When his father became King Haakon VII of Norway in 1905, Olav took on the title of Prince Olav. The future king was known for his love of sports and athleticism, excelling in ski-jumping and winning an Olympic gold medal in sailing at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Olav's passion for sailing continued throughout his life, and he served as a naval officer in the Royal Norwegian Navy during World War II. King Olav V ascended to the throne on January 17, 1957, following the death of his father. He was a beloved monarch, known for his dedication to his people and his commitment to rebuilding Norway after the war. Olav was also the last surviving grandchild of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
