EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Rose & Crown Public House, located on Edgware Road in London, during the 1930s. The red brick building with ornate white detailing and the distinctive "Rose & Crown" sign are prominent features in this image, which transports us back in time. The Rose & Crown, established by the Hoare and Company Limited, was a popular local pub that served as a gathering place for the community. The pub's history dates back to at least the early 20th century, but this photograph provides a glimpse into its appearance during the 1930s. Unfortunately, this historic pub no longer exists. As of July 2018, it had been demolished and replaced with flats. The loss of the Rose & Crown is a reminder of the ever-changing urban landscape and the importance of preserving the history of our built environment. This photograph is a valuable record of a bygone era and a testament to the rich history of public houses in London. It is a must-have for anyone with an interest in the city's history, social history, or pub culture. The back of the print includes the address of the pub, "Rose & Crown, Edgware Road, London NW1 5DR," and the date of the photograph, 1939.
