This vintage print captures the Fletcher FU24 ZK-BIS (msn 45) in all its glory at Hamilton, New Zealand, back in January 1964. The sleek aeroplane stands tall and proud, a symbol of innovation and progress in the world of aviation.
Little did anyone know at the time that this very aircraft would meet a tragic fate just a few years later. In March 1967, it crashed, leaving behind a trail of devastation. However, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it was rebuilt as VH-EOB in Australia.
But fate had other plans for this resilient aircraft. In March 1970, tragedy struck once again as it met its final end in another crash. Despite its troubled history, the Fletcher FU24 ZK-BIS will always be remembered for its contribution to the world of flight.
As we look back on this snapshot from circa 1960, we are reminded of the risks and rewards that come with pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers.
