EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic GWR poster from 1938, designed to entice travelers to explore the breathtaking Cambrian Coast of Wales. Great Western Railway spared no effort in promoting the enchanting allure and magnificent scenery of this coastal gem. In fact, they went as far as publishing a book in 1936 titled "Rambles around the Cambrian Coast" authored by Hugh Page, which detailed over 300 miles of scenic walks through hills and valleys along the west coast of Wales. The artwork for this poster was skillfully crafted by Charles Pears, a renowned marine painter who served as an Official Naval Artist during both World Wars. Pears' expertise shines through in his ability to capture the essence of this picturesque destination with remarkable precision. As you gaze upon this timeless image, you are transported back to an era where seaside holidays were all about relaxation and leisurely strolls on sandy beaches. The bathing belles depicted exude elegance and charm, perfectly embodying the fashionable women of that time. This print is not just a testament to GWR's promotional prowess but also serves as a tribute to Charles Pears' artistic talent. It reminds us that rail travel has long been intertwined with exploration and discovery, offering us glimpses into hidden treasures like the mesmerizing Cambrian Coast.
