EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures a significant moment in the life of Eileen Parker, wife of Lieutenant Commander Michael Parker. Taken on Friday, 28th February 1958, at the Law Courts in London, it portrays Mrs. Parker leaving after obtaining a divorce decree nisi. The dissolution of their fifteen-year marriage was granted due to her husband's admitted adultery with Mrs. Mary Alexandra Thompson. Despite the heartbreak caused by infidelity, this image also reveals resilience and determination as Mrs. Parker emerges from the courthouse with grace and composure. Her strength is further highlighted by being awarded custody of their two children, Michael aged thirteen and Julie aged nine. Lieutenant Commander Michael Parker's connection to Prince Philip adds an intriguing layer to this story; he served as both a friend and former Private Secretary to The Duke of Edinburgh. However, it is important not to overshadow Eileen Parker's personal journey through this difficult time. Captured by photographer Bill Malindine during the mid-20th century era, this photograph serves as a reminder that even those connected to royalty are not immune to challenges within their own households. It stands as a testament to friendship lost but also showcases Eileen Parker's resilience in navigating an emotionally trying period while prioritizing her children's well-being above all else.
