Bodmin Road Station, c. 1950s
A view of a 2-6-2 tank locomotive arriving into Bodmin Road station, Cornwall, c.1950s. The station opened in 1859 as part of the Cornwall Railway after discussions took place as to where the station for Bodmin should be located. In the end Bodmin Road station was built near Lanhydrock House (now a National Trust property) as Mr Robartes, the owner, was a supporter of the railway and saw an opportunity to provide visitors to his estate with an easy journey.
The Cornwall Railway amalgamated with the Great Western Railway in 1889, and Bodmin Road changed its name to Bodmin Parkway in 1983
