Ahu Tongariki is the largest ahu on Rapa Nui/Easter Island (a Chilean island in the Pacific). Its moai were toppled during the islands civil wars and in the twentieth century the ahu was swept inland by a tsunami. It has since been restored and has fifteen moai including an 86 tonne moai that was the heaviest ever erected on the island. Ahu Tongariki is one kilometer from Rano Raraku and Poike in the Hotu-iti area of Rapa Nui National Park. All the moai here face sunset during Summer Solstice

Ahu Tongariki Easter Island Human Representation In A Row Moai Statue
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the awe-inspiring sight of Easter Island's famous Moai statues standing in a row at Ahu Tongariki. These colossal stone figures, remnants of an ancient civilization, hold within them a rich history and cultural significance that continues to intrigue visitors from around the world. Ahu Tongariki, the largest ahu on Rapa Nui (Easter Island), suffered great turmoil during civil wars when its moai were toppled. The passage of time also brought destruction as a powerful tsunami swept the ahu inland in the twentieth century. However, through meticulous restoration efforts, this remarkable site has been revived to showcase its former glory. Standing proudly against an expansive sky and picturesque landscape, these fifteen moai stand tall with their enigmatic expressions and imposing presence. Among them is an 86-tonne moai - the heaviest ever erected on the island - adding to the grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located just one kilometer away from Rano Raraku and Poike in Rapa Nui National Park, Ahu Tongariki offers visitors not only a glimpse into an ancient civilization but also an opportunity to witness nature's spectacle during summer solstice when all these magnificent statues face towards sunset. Through Frédéric Collin's lens, this color image transports us back in time while evoking feelings of tranquility and reverence for this international landmark. It serves as a reminder of our shared human history and invites us to explore further into the mysteries
