Britains new giant liner " Queen Elizabeth", the largest ship ever built at the time of her construction, sails down the Clyde at the start of her secret maiden voyage across the Atlantic from John Browns shipyard at Clydebank, where she was built, to New-York city, 03 March 1940. Launched on 27 September 1938, the Queen Elizabeth was the second of the two superliners which sailed the Atlantic Ocean for Cunard Line, after serving as a troopship for World War II. She made her final Atlantic crossing in November 1968. Following a fire, she was scrapped in Hong Kong in 1975. (Photo by - / AFP)
